Bolzano Comics 2009 ended yesterday afternoon at the Capitol cinema, where the winners of the NoWords competiton have been announced. And here they are:
1st Price: Thomas Sorlie Hansen form Norway with: untitled
Motivation: For the highly original and subtle use of comic language combined with minimalist pictographic representation, demonstrating great stylistic maturity and craftsmanship.
2nd Price: Ludmilla Bartscht from Germany with: Das Geschenk

Motivation: For having created a both sensitive and delicate story, illustrated with an elegant and personal style.
Special Mention: Marco Cantoni from Italy with: Beep

Motivation: For his courageous and experimental approach to comic representation, in which the self-imposed limits are used to his own advantage.
Special Mention Michele Toffalori from Italy with: Le Attenzioni
Motivation: For the great impact deriving from poetic and minimalist use of comic language.
Special Mention: Mark Landman from USA with: Dick Cheney in Retirement

Motivation: For the fresh and original reckoning against a highly topical political theme, bearing testimony to the forceful potential of the comic medium.
Special Mention: From Poland, Maria Rostocka with Fever
Motivation: For being able to represent a state of mind, rendered with a pictorial style of such great impact. An excellent example of the artistic and narrative freedom that the comic enjoys.
We’d like to thank everybody from around the globe for having taken part in our little festival, thanks for your great dedication and for the really high quality of your works! Thanks for having made it possible for us to create bolzano comics, the experience of these last days give us great hopes for a 2010 edition. Please keep on visiting this blog, we will publish the remaining works, and of course also photos and news from the events.

Presentation: Burumballa (Edizioni Tunuè)
Burumballa is an anthologic project dedicated to experimentation with sequential art. The presentation will be hosted by Lorenzo Sartori and Matteo Broggi.

Exhibition of works from the NoWods Comics 2009
Exhibition of the selected works from this year’s edition of the NoWords Comics contest. 25 short stories from authors from all over the world, a visual tour through the international comic scene.

CARDBOARD, Live painting
Live performance where artists will paint on cardboard, t-shirts, and other materials offered by the A-Store shop.

Tomorrow we will open the exhibition of the Swiss scratch-board artist Thomas Ott, who is best known for his stories depicting the dark and gloomy side of life and for his highly personal and vibrant style.
